Coronavirus update (covid-19) - July 2021
Country parks are open as usual. Social distancing requirements have been lifted, but we're asking visitors to remain mindful and try to keep a safe distance from others
Beacon Hill Café, 1485 Tithe Barn and the Colliery Cafe, are providing both eat-in and takeaway services. Opening hours vary, check the social media channels for the latest information:
Help us to keep our country parks safe and enjoyable for all visitors by respecting the Countryside Code and bylaws.
– Keep dogs under close control
– Leave gates and property as you find them
– Do not pick wild flowers or remove any other flora
– Do not swim in any of our lakes or ponds, nor let your dog(s) swim
– Do not light fires

Oakthorpe Picnic Site
Located in the heart of the National Forest, off the Donisthorpe to Ashby de la Zouch road, Oakthorpe Picnic Site comprises 14.8 acres (six hectares) of mixed habitats including woodland, semi improved grassland and wildflower areas. The site is home to a wide range of both flora and fauna.
There are surfaced paths suitable for all users (wheelchair users will require assistance due to inclines) and pedestrian routes into the neighbouring 98.8 acre (40 hectares) Willesley Wood, managed by the Woodland Trust.
Free car park, open daily; 9am – 4pm (Oct – Mar), 9am – 7pm (Apr – Sept). We do not permit overnight parking or camping.

Please note there is a height restriction barrier of 2m at the entrance.
